On Friday, the Morgantown Vet Center located in Westover, WV, had a car show and picnic for the local veterans and their families.
The weather was good, the food was great, and the cars were a must see, but the star of the event was the veterans that turned out for the car show and picnic. The event was on the smaller size compared to some of the other car shows in the area, but that is ideal for many veterans.
Anyone who has had the pleasure to witness a group of veterans talking about the “good ole days” can appreciate the joy in the eyes of those men and women. The stories they share are first-hand accounts of how things used to be. The group of veterans who were forced to be hard and fearless in their youth, were on this day kind and mostly soft spoken. The depression and stress of life melts away and is replaced with smiles and spoken words. If anyone who wonders how to help a veteran with depression, I suggest a visit to the local Vet Center.
